What is the difference between Scan and Forward, Scan and Store (POP3) and Scan
and Store (POP3/Web)?
|
|
|
Scan and Forward is for companies that already operate their own
SMTP server (Exchange, Groupwise, Notes, etc).
Scan and Store is for companies that are using someone else's (usually
their ISP's) mail server. Scan and Store POP3 allows you to send and receive email
using a 3rd party email client such as MS Outlook. Scan and Store Web adds a web-based
email client that also allows you to check your email through a web browser, just
like surfing the Internet.

How does the spam filter determine if a message is spam?
|
|
|
Each message is ranked by our proprietary weighting system, which
performs over 20 different tests from 5 general categories. Some
of these tests contain thousands of heuristical patterns. Based on a message's overall
score, it is either: 1) Passed on for final delivery; 2)Marked "Possible Spam"
in the subject line and sent for final delivery; or 3) Held as spam.

Can I white-list a certain mail server, domain, or user?
|
|
|
With Mailprotector® you don’t need to manage broad white lists.
Unlike most email filters that take a “sledge-hammer” approach to filtering
spam, Mailprotector’s intelligent design means we don’t reject based
solely on RBLs or other content type blacklists. Therefore, it just isn’t
necessary to manage equally blunt white lists.
If you do have message that gets tagged as spam that shouldn’t have we have
a simple process whereby you can submit the message for analysis and filter tuning.

Is it complicated to switch my email service to MailProtector?
|
|
|
It's not complicated at all!
For Scan and Store clients, it's as easy as having your DNS hoster make one change
to your DNS record and changing two settings in your email client. The entire process
takes less than 10 minutes. Our support staff will provide you with the exact information
needed to get your service up and running.
For Scan and Forward clients, it's as easy as making one change to your DNS record,
one change to your SMTP server and one change to your firewall. The entire process
should take less than 10 minutes. As always, our support staff will provide you
with the exact information needed and be there to help you get your service up and
running.

What is vulnerability? What’s the difference between a virus and vulnerability?
|
|
|
Vulnerabilities are mal-formed messages created with the intent
of bypassing email based virus/spam filtering as well as desktop based Anti-Virus.
Many vulnerabilities would even allow virus to be executed on the target machine
without user interaction.
The difference between a message with a virus and one with a vulnerability is that
the virus laden message is a known virus whereas the vulnerability laden message
could conceivable contain any type of content.
Lately, many spammers have been trying to use vulnerabilities to bypass spam filtering.

10. |
What happens to messages that contain vulnerabilities?
|
|
|
Messages that contain vulnerabilities are treated the same as messages that contain
viruses. They are destroyed and the intended recipient is notified. Any alternate
treatment of vulnerabilities would be the equivalent of locking your front door
while leaving your windows open.
This policy recently protected Mailprotector® users from the Bride/Bridex and
Bugbear worms before anti-virus companies even released definitions.
